2007-2008: My 1st Year Teaching!

My name is Stephanie Rose Mayeaux. I graduated from Southeastern with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education (PreK—3) in May and am looking forward to my first year at SES teaching your precious Kindergarteners! J I love to read children’s books, especially books by authors like Eric Carle, Peggy Parrish, Jan Brett, Mercer Mayer, Shel Silverstein, and Roald Dahl. I also love playing with Pay-Doh, magnets, Koosh balls, slinkies, shaving cream, stamps, stickers, and sidewalk chalk. I love using these hands-on manipulatives and try to incorporate them into my classroom as much as possible. I do this because I firmly believe that engaging children in hands-on activities that are relevant to them tend to capture and hold their attention better than anything else I’ve ever seen—except, possibly, a good book! Please let me know if you or your children need anything—that’s why I’m here!

I have also worked at Hammond Head Start as a Volunteer Corps member with SLU’s Jump Start Early Literacy Program. I continue to work at Turquoise Coyote, a bead store in downtown Ponchatoula where I have worked for the past six years, on Saturdays. I have lived in Ponchatoula all of my life; I graduated from PHS in 2002. I still teach nightly art classes at The Art Station in Ponchatoula and I make my own jewelry. I had a pet turtle named Myrtle for ten years and have loved them ever since. Turtles are my good luck charms and that’s why my theme in Room 420 this year is "Under the Sea with Ms. Stephanie’s Sea Turtles." Welcome to my class and I look forward to a year devoted to fun-filled learning! J

A Few of my Favorite Quotes:

"I was going to conquer the world, but I was distracted by something sparkly!"

--Anonymous

"You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know.

You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go.

So be sure when you step.

Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act."

--from Dr. Seuss’ Oh, the Places You’ll Go

"At first things seem IMPOSSIBLE.
Then, they become IMPROBABLE.
FInally, with a little determination, creativity, and flexibility, they become INEVITABLE!"

--the late Christopher Reeve
